The correct handling and maintenance points of ball bearings

Release time:2025-06-12 hits:0

Ball bearings are extremely precise mechanical components, with geometric tolerances often measured in millionths of an inch. This extremely high precision requires us to treat it as a high-precision instrument and take care of it during processing, inspection, and installation. It cannot be ignored that the root cause of bearing failure is often not a quality issue with the product itself, but rather due to improper operation during use.

Key factors affecting bearing life and their consequences

01. Foreign particles: invisible killers of bearings

Once foreign objects enter the interior of the bearing, it will not only significantly shorten its service life, but also cause abnormal operation, such as:

1. Significant increase in noise

2. Increased frictional resistance

3. Frequent occurrence of ball slippage

These issues seriously affect the operational efficiency of the equipment and may even cause larger mechanical failures.

02. Pollution: an invisible and deadly risk

It is crucial to keep the exterior of the bearing and surrounding components (such as the shaft and bearing seat) clean. If the bearing seat or shaft surface is heavily contaminated, it can easily lead to:

1. The bearing assembly surface is not parallel

2. The trajectory of the ball in the raceway deviates from the circumferential plane

3. Abnormalities such as speed fluctuations, slip phenomena, and raceway interference

The above phenomenon will intensify friction, lead to severe heating, accelerate the oxidation of lubricating oil, and ultimately cause premature failure of the bearing.

Correct Operation and Maintenance Guide: The Key to Extending Bearing Life

Preparation before operation

1. Personal protection: It is strictly prohibited to operate with bare hands. Fingertips or medical gloves that do not contain talcum powder should be worn to prevent moisture and acidic substances from corroding the bearings. When operating micro bearings, one should wear plastic yarn protective clothing that does not shed fibers, including a hat, cover, and shoe cover, and avoid using cosmetics or powders.

2. Working environment: The workbench should be kept clean, and eating, smoking, and impurities should be strictly prohibited to avoid contamination.

3. Tool requirements: Before use, ensure that the tooling is clean and free of burrs. It is recommended to operate under a laminar flow workstation to ensure air cleanliness. When cleaning the shell and shaft, clean room wipes or specialized cotton swabs should be used, and ordinary workshop cloths are strictly prohibited.

Storage suggestions for bearings

Bearings should be stored in their original packaging until they are about to be used. The storage environment must be kept dry to prevent moisture or corrosion from human moisture and acidic substances.

Correct installation method

1. Application principle of installation tools: It is necessary to ensure that the bearing is installed vertically on the shaft and correctly assembled to the bearing seat. During the press fit process, only apply pressure to the ring during installation. For example, when pressing the bearing into the shaft, only apply pressure to the inner ring, and avoid transmitting the force to the outer ring through the ball bearings.

2. Avoid impact behavior: Any form of knocking or falling will leave "Brinell marks" on the raceway, seriously affecting the performance and service life of the bearing.

Small details, big differences - the fate of bearings is in your hands

Following the above professional operating standards and daily maintenance points can not only effectively extend the service life of bearings, but also provide stable and efficient operation guarantee for the entire equipment system.
